Former VP of Marketing for AIRWALK My name is Greg Woodman and I was the Sr. Vice President of Marketing/Sales for AIRWALK Footwear from 1993 until 1999 when the company was sold. Under my supervision, AIRWALK sponsored a group of traveling bicycle stunt performance teams. We received excellent results from this sponsorship! What started out as a test became me asking how can we book these guys every day of the year and start a second team? Recently, while speaking on a panel of entrepreneurs to a Penn State University class, I had the pleasure of meeting Ron Thomas. As fate would have it, Ron used to be a performer on one of those stunt teams. Now he is continuing on the unique good will and effective marketing effort as the owner of Rise Above Entertainment LLC, a business similar to the one that we sponsored years ago. I am writing this letter addressing all the excellent marketing opportunities that I was fortunate to benefit from that lie within the sponsoring of teams like his. The teams that Ron own have the potential to produce several entertaining events daily. Each event can contain true grass roots marketing and a branded performance that gets great PR in local media both before and after it happens. These events focus on kids but the extreme and visually exciting nature of them catches the attention of people of all ages. The events that Ron and his teams put on are interactive. During every single show kids can receive branded stickers, autographed posters and discount coupons for whatever product the riders are representing. For example what worked tremendously for AIRWALK was the handing out of coupons for 5 bucks off shoes or some other discount that consequentially drove revenue to the local stores immediately post performance.I believe there to be HUGE and best value in his promotions are when they are performed at schools and here is why; as schools continue to increasingly crack down on everything from the nutrition of foods in vending machines to dress code, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a positive medium through which you can market to today’s American youth. In the eyes of schools kids, Ron and his crew are rock stars and what better place for a brand name than on a group of clean cut rock stars that perform over the back drop of a good message daily in front of thousands of school kids? When I met Ron I was immediately impressed. He came across as a hard working, very ambitious young man. At just 24 years of age he has already built a business that has experienced exceptional growth in economically unfertile land. He is a progressive thinker and an exceptionally talented bike rider with his sights on the future. Back at AIRWALK we used to spend $30 million a year in marketing and of all the money spent annually this “grass roots traveling good will ambassador of our brand” was the best bang for our buck, both in schools and elsewhere. We even sent them to Germany for a month! My own kids still have the poster, sticker and photo in their bedrooms from that day the guys jumped over them. I believe it wise to sponsor Ron and his teams within Rise Above Entertainment because, as his business grows so will the reach of his marketing power making a smaller investment today pay large dividends in the future!

Dear Ron, I wanted to send you this letter of recommendation. Please feel free to pass along to any sales representative who may not have used you or the BMX show in the past.To whom it may concern: I just finished two weeks with the Rise Above Action Sports team. It was simply amazing! In a world where it is nearly impossible to motivate kids to do anything, this show made a huge impact in my sales. Ron’s team did shows for 30 of my Middle Schools. The students at every show were hypnotized and amazed by the riders. The stunts were huge, the message was strong and positive, all of the administrators were thrilled, and the kids can’t wait to have the show back again next year. The most interesting thing to me was how the kids swarmed the riders after the show. The kids wanted autographs, high-fives, pictures, they wanted to know what kind of bikes the riders were riding, what kind of tee-shirt they were wearing and what kind of dog food they feed their pets at home. The students idolized these riders and hung on every word spoken. Once word of mouth circulates through the hallways of my schools, I would estimate that the average of 600 students per show will double next year.
